As a young boy who simply loved to be outside, I was brought up in a magical world being raised in a hunting family. I was primarily introduced to hunting by my Uncles C.A. and Teed Goforth; both were accomplished hounds-men who were bear and mountain lion guides in Northern California and Southern Oregon.
Following in their footsteps, at the age of 12, I guided my first hunter to success all by myself. I will never forget the feeling I had in achieving such a great accomplishment. From that day forward, I’ve never wanted to do anything else!
Once I was away from my Uncles, my faithful and always devoted Mother would take me hunting! Each hunting season the norm for me and Mom was being awakened to the alarm going off at 5am and the smell of hot black coffee. As a teenager, I almost entirely supplied our family with a supply of meat.
Over the years I have guided for many different outfitters throughout the Rocky Mountains and in Texas. I ran bear and mountain lion hunts for other Outfitters with my own hounds and quickly became known as one of the best hounds-man around. With each Outfitter I worked with, I learned the goods and the not so goods of the outfitting business. In 1985, I felt it was time to put that knowledge to better use and I started my own outfitting business – Rocky Top Outfitters.
I made my living hunting bear and mountain lion with my hounds, but I also enjoyed hunting elk, mule deer, sheep, antelope, whitetail deer and hogs. I ended up on one of the best elk ranches on the planet – The Renowned Taylor Ranch – where I was blessed to have the opportunity to guide hundreds of clients to some of the biggest elk of their lives.
For years I filmed my bear and mountain lion hunts and enjoyed some success selling VHS tapes of my hunting adventures. I did my first TV show with David Hale and Harold Knight of Knight & Hale game calls, it was their first successful elk hunt and David took a 363 Bull! From there I began hosting other TV shows which returned some great results and success. After being prodded constantly, I decided to start my own show with the help of some dear friends and hunting clients Sam and Ruth McCuin. The show, “The Outfitter”, progressed and won several awards – Best Editing, Viewer Favorite Hunting Show, and the most rewarding Viewer Favorite on Camera Personality.
This opened up hunting opportunities around the world and out of those opportunities a new show was born, “Where in the World is Colorado Buck”. Today the show has been seen and viewed by millions of viewers. It is currently available in a dozen countries around the world, and continues to grow and become bigger than ever. Our social media continues to have a vertical climb and the upcoming 2018 season is bringing some of the best shows yet to be seen from around the globe.
Colorado Buck is featured as a worldwide big game hunter in pursuit of exotic species that most only dream about and some have NEVER heard of.
The success that I have been fortunate enough to have can be accredited to a wonderful support group of family, cameramen, editors, friends, sponsors and most of all… God.
