Programming Spotlight:
Where in the World is Colorado Buck

with Host Colorado Buck

Q: Who was your hunting/fishing mentor?
A:
I grew up with two of my Uncles, C.A. and Teed Goforth, they were both houndsman and guided bear and mountain lion hunters for many years. It was a very special opportunity to grow up with those men in that atmosphere. I never wanted to leave that type of lifestyle. So far, I haven’t.

Q: How did you get started in the hunting /fishing industry?
A:
Growing up in a professional hunting family it made it a natural transition to go into guiding for other outfitters and other species. It's 30+ years later, besides the filming of it all and televising the events, not much has changed-I still love what I do.

Q: What's the biggest mishap that has happened while filming an episode?
A: While filming a hunt in Argentina for Asian Water Buffalo, a Buffalo that I had shot and had been dead for almost 15 minutes, got up and charged me, my PH, interpreter and brand new cameraman ( his first trip ) I had to talk long and hard to convince that this was not a common assurance. Luckily no one was hurt, and the cameraman is still with me--- So far.

Q: What was your most memorable catch/hunt?

A: My first Elephant. A hunt in Zimbabwe, I took with my Dad’s rifle that he took his Elephant with, it was also the anniversary Day of the Loss of one of Africa’s most respected Professional Hunters Mr. Lew Harris, I was being Guided by two of his son’s Morgan and Ryan Harris – It was a very emotional and to say the least a Memorable Hunt.

Q: Tell us your favorite hunting/fish joke.
A:
A 911 call in South Africa, from a man who’s wife had been bitten badly by a Warthog – when ask by the operator for his address to send the ambulance, he replied I live at 123 Eucalyptus Street, when asked if he would verify the address by spelling it he said YES- excitedly. Upon twice failing to spell it the line fell silent – then he replied – Hey, you know, I’m just going to Drag her on over to OAK Street and you can pick her up there!

Q: How do you like to spend your time when you are not hunting/fishing?

A: Working on details of new outfitters, destinations and remote hunting opportunities around the world.

Q: What were the worst conditions you ever fished/ hunted under? How did it affect the outcome of the trip?
A:
I spent two weeks on Marco Polo in Kyrgyzstan in temperatures from 12 to 20 below Zero. It was very apparent that the conditions and efforts were real and demanding – many viewers commented about how surreal it seemed. I lost 23 pounds on that hunt – Looking at me now – I may consider going back!

Q: What are people always surprised to find out about you?
A: That my real name is Colorado Buck, and most are surprised (they tell me) that I am just a down to earth guy...I'm proud of that!

Q: What’s your biggest accomplishment/ what are you most proud of?
A: Raising two boy’s that I am VERY PROUD of and doing it while making a living following a life long Dream….I hope to never wake from.

Q: Where is your favorite hunting/ fishing spot? Why?
A:
The Southwest U.S.
A: I still ride horses and follow hounds on dry ground mountain lion tracks, through the same country as many of the most famed houndsman that ever lived like Mr. Ben Lilly, the Lee Brothers and others. The country is largely untouched and remote much like it was when these legendary men hunted it……I Love That!
